What is it and how is it used?

VIAGRA is classified as a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor. It functions by relaxing the blood vessels in the penis, enabling increased blood flow when you're sexually aroused. VIAGRA is effective in helping achieve an erection only if there is sexual stimulation present; it should not be taken if you do not have erectile dysfunction, nor should women use it.

VIAGRA is intended for men with erectile dysfunction, a condition where a man is unable to achieve or maintain a firm erection sufficient for sexual activity.

Considerations Before Use

- Are currently taking nitrates, as this combination could lead to a dangerously low blood pressure. Notify your doctor about any such medications often prescribed for chest pain. If unsure, consult your doctor or pharmacist. - Are using nitric oxide donors, such as amyl nitrite ("poppers"), due to similar risks of low blood pressure. - Are allergic to sildenafil or any other ingredients in VIAGRA. - Have severe heart or liver issues. - Recently experienced a stroke or heart attack, or have low blood pressure. - Suffer from certain rare hereditary eye disorders like retinitis pigmentosa. - Have ever lost vision due to non-arteritic anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy (NAION).

Do not take VIAGRA if you:

Special Precautions with VIAGRA

Inform your doctor if you have: - Sickle cell anemia, leukemia, or multiple myeloma. - A deformation of the penis or Peyronie's disease. - Existing heart problems, which require thorough assessment by your doctor before considering sexual activity. - A stomach ulcer or any bleeding disorders, such as hemophilia.

If you experience sudden vision loss or decrease, stop using VIAGRA and seek medical attention immediately.

Do not use VIAGRA with other oral or topical erectile dysfunction treatments.

Considerations for Children and Adolescents

VIAGRA is not for individuals under 18 years of age.

Considerations for Patients with Kidney or Liver Issues

Notify your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems; a lower dose may be prescribed.

Interactions with Other Medications

Inform your doctor or pharmacist of any medications you are currently taking or have recently taken, including those not requiring a prescription. VIAGRA may interact with certain medications, particularly those for treating chest pain. If you have an emergency, inform any healthcare provider that you have taken VIAGRA and when.

Avoid combining VIAGRA with nitrates or nitric oxide donors due to the risk of a dangerous decrease in blood pressure.

If you are on protease inhibitors for HIV treatment, your doctor may start you with the lowest dose of VIAGRA (25 mg).

Patients taking alpha-blockers for high blood pressure or prostate issues may experience dizziness, potentially caused by low blood pressure upon standing. This reaction is most likely within four hours of taking VIAGRA. Use of a regular daily dose of alpha-blockers before starting VIAGRA is advised, and your doctor may opt for a lower dose (25 mg) of VIAGRA.

Taking VIAGRA with Food and Drink

You can take VIAGRA with or without food, but a heavy meal may delay its effectiveness. Excessive alcohol consumption may impair the ability to achieve an erection, so it is advisable to limit alcohol intake prior to taking VIAGRA.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

VIAGRA is not intended for use by women.

Driving and Machinery Use

VIAGRA may cause dizziness and affect vision; assess your body's reaction to the drug before driving or operating machinery.

Important Information About VIAGRA Ingredients

If you have been advised by your doctor of an intolerance to sugars (like lactose), consult your doctor before using VIAGRA.

How to Use VIAGRA

Always follow your doctor's instructions when taking VIAGRA. The typical starting dose is 50 mg. You should not exceed one dose per day and should take it about one hour before planned sexual activity, swallowing the tablet whole with a glass of water.

If you find the dosage too strong or weak, consult your doctor. VIAGRA requires sexual stimulation to facilitate an erection and generally takes effect within 30 minutes to one hour, although a heavy meal may prolong this time.

If VIAGRA does not produce an erection or if it does not last long enough to complete sexual intercourse, inform your doctor.

Overdose

Taking too much VIAGRA may increase side effects without improving effectiveness. Stick to the prescribed dosage and contact your doctor if you accidentally take more than recommended.

For any questions regarding the use of this medication, consult your healthcare provider.

Possible Side Effects

As with all medications, VIAGRA can cause side effects, though not everyone will experience them. Reported side effects tend to be mild to moderate and of short duration.

- Sit in a semi-upright position and relax. - Do not use nitrates for relief of your chest pain. - Immediately contact your doctor.

If you experience chest pain during or after sex:

Prolonged, painful erections have been reported with VIAGRA; if an erection lasts over four hours, contact a physician right away.

If you experience sudden vision loss or decrease, stop taking VIAGRA and seek immediate medical attention.

Storage Guidelines

  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Store below 30°C.
  • Keep in the original packaging to protect against moisture.
  • Do not use VIAGRA after the expiration date on the carton, which refers to the last day of that month.
