Ultima-Femara, produced by Ultima Pharmaceuticals, is an anti-estrogen medication widely utilized in both medical and athletic settings. In the medical field, it is primarily prescribed for treating estrogen-dependent neoplastic conditions, including breast cancer in females, while in sports, it helps mitigate the side effects of estrogenic steroids in men, such as water retention and gynecomastia, among others.

This drug functions as a non-steroidal aromatase inhibitor, with Letrozole as its active ingredient. It has been approved for human use and is distinguished by its lack of steroidal properties, androgenic activity, toxicity, liver damage, or addictive qualities.

Upon ingestion, Ultima-Femara acts by inhibiting aromatase, an enzyme responsible for estrogen synthesis. Its mechanism involves the inhibition of the cytochrome P450 enzyme within the aromatase system. With long-term use, it can reduce estrogen activity by 75-95% from baseline levels.

Ultima-Femara is classified as a third-generation aromatase inhibitor, with Anastrozole as a similar but not identical counterpart. In contrast, Clomid and Nolvadex function as estrogen receptor blockers, differing in both their mechanisms of action and effects, as they do not alter estrogen production but rather bind to its receptors.

It is worth noting that Ultima-Femara is generally considered a safe medication when used as directed, as it typically does not produce side effects. However, misuse or excessive intake can lead to possible complications affecting the digestive system (such as nausea and dry mouth), central nervous system (including dizziness and depression), respiratory system (shortness of breath and coughing), and musculoskeletal system (joint pain and osteoporosis). In cases of overdose, symptomatic treatment is usually employed.

The drug is intended for oral administration, independent of food intake, and it is quickly and thoroughly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, with a bioavailability of 99%. Food does not influence its absorption or significant therapeutic effects.

The recommended dosage of Ultima-Femara ranges from 0.25 to 5 mg daily, tailored to individual needs and tolerance levels. The medication can be utilized in one of two ways: 1) for preventive measures against complications arising from estrogenic steroids, or 2) as a remedy during a steroid cycle to address estrogen-related symptoms once they appear. Regardless of the approach, it effectively helps prevent estrogen-related side effects such as water retention, increased body fat, and gynecomastia in men.
