The synthesis of synthetic testosterone was first achieved in 1935 by German biochemist Adolf Butenandt and Swiss chemist Leopold Ruzicka, both of whom were awarded Nobel Prizes for their contributions.

In bodybuilding, testosterone is predominantly administered as an injectable ester or suspension due to its poor oral bioavailability and the impractical nature of high-dose transdermal or sublingual delivery methods. All forms of testosterone essentially comprise the active hormone plus an ester, which dictates the release rate and duration of the compound’s effects. In essence, longer esters release testosterone slowly into the bloodstream, maintaining stable hormone levels over an extended period without significant peaks.
It is important to note that about 5% of testosterone in men is converted to the more potent androgen, dihydrotestosterone (DHT), through 5α-reduction. Additionally, roughly 0.3% is transformed into estradiol, the primary female hormone, via the aromatase enzyme found in the brain, liver, and adipose tissue. Therefore, precautions should be taken to mitigate potential side effects. We recommend regular blood tests and, if necessary, using aromatase inhibitors during the cycle (preferably anastrozole) and SERMs (such as clomifene or toremifene) during post-cycle therapy (PCT).
