There are several generic alternatives designed to substitute Pfizer's brand-name Viagra, including Malegra-200, which is produced by the Indian company Sunrise Remedies.

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is the condition these treatments aim to address. ED refers to the difficulty a patient experiences in achieving or sustaining an erection, even when aroused. Treatments containing Sildenafil Citrate, such as Viagra and generic versions like Malegra from Sunrise Remedies, can effectively help patients regain their erectile function for several hours, as there is currently no cure for ED.

How It Works:

Sildenafil Citrate (SC) functions primarily as a PDE5 inhibitor, blocking the enzyme responsible for breaking down the neurotransmitter, allowing cGMP—produced during sexual stimulation—to persist. cGMP plays a crucial role in the erectile response by facilitating vasodilation and smooth muscle relaxation, which increases blood flow to the penile tissue. By inhibiting PDE5 and preserving cGMP, SC helps maintain erections. The effects of SC can last approximately four hours; however, sexual stimulation is still necessary for it to work.

Since the clinical action of SC has been established as a PDE5 inhibitor and enhancer of cGMP, patients can expect improvements in their erectile response. According to online pharmacies, SC medications can “enhance sexual wellness.” SC medications boost erectile response but do not lead to spontaneous erections without sexual stimuli, so users must be sexually aroused for the drug to take effect.

Dosage:

The usual starting dose for medications containing Sildenafil is 100 mg, which can be adjusted up to 200 mg based on the patient's response, or decreased to 25 mg depending on SC’s efficacy and the patient's tolerance. It is recommended that patients take SC medication about one hour prior to intended sexual activity. Since SC is a treatment rather than a cure for ED, there is no set duration for therapy. However, long-term use is being considered, as clinical trials for SC-containing drugs suggest promising results.

Side Effects:

In a study evaluating the long-term effects of SC, side effects were reported, though they were not widespread, affecting only 3.8% of the 979 participants. The most frequently reported side effects included headaches and indigestion. Other less common side effects noted among patients using SC included nasal congestion, flushing, visual disturbances, dizziness, mild palpitations, moderate increased heart rate, conjunctivitis, and light sensitivity; however, these side effects were not common.

Drug Interactions:

Sildenafil Citrate should not be taken with other erectile dysfunction medications, and Malegra-200 is contraindicated for use with other ED drugs. Combining ED medications can intensify side effects. Additionally, SC medications should not be used in conjunction with nitrates, certain antibiotics, HIV medications, blood pressure medications, or antifungal treatments.
