Cataflam (diclofenac potassium) is a type of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It helps alleviate pain and inflammation by decreasing certain substances in the body.
Cataflam is used to treat mild to moderate pain and relieve symptoms associated with osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis.
Additionally, Cataflam can be used for managing menstrual cramps.
Important Information
Using Cataflam may heighten the risk of serious heart problems such as heart attacks or strokes, particularly with long-term use, higher doses, or in individuals with pre-existing heart conditions. Even those without existing heart issues may experience a heart attack or stroke while on this medication. It is advised not to use Cataflam shortly before or after heart bypass surgery (coronary artery bypass graft, or CABG).
Furthermore, diclofenac can cause stomach or intestinal bleeding, which may be life-threatening. These complications can occur unexpectedly, especially in older adults.
How to Take Cataflam
Follow the instructions on the label or the guidance provided by your doctor when taking Cataflam. Your doctor may adjust your dosage occasionally. Do not exceed the recommended amount or duration of treatment. Always aim for the lowest effective dose for your condition.
For pain relief or primary dysmenorrhea, the typical dose of Cataflam is 50 mg taken three times a day. In some cases, starting with a 100 mg dose followed by 50 mg doses may yield better results.
For managing osteoarthritis, the usual dosage is between 100-150 mg per day, divided into doses of 50 mg taken two or three times daily.
For rheumatoid arthritis, the recommended dosage is 150-200 mg per day, divided into doses of 50 mg taken three or four times daily.
If you are on Cataflam for an extended period, you may require regular medical check-ups.
Store Cataflam at room temperature in a dry and cool place.
