Tesamorelin (Tesamorelin) is composed of a growth hormone-releasing factor (GRF).
It is utilized to decrease excess abdominal fat resulting from certain HIV treatments, a condition known as lipodystrophy (LYE-poe-DIS-troe-fee).
Tesamorelin is not intended for weight loss and should not be used for treating obesity.
Tesamorelin (Tesamorelin for injection) is approved for reducing excess abdominal fat in HIV-positive patients experiencing lipodystrophy.
Use Limitations:Due to the lack of research on the long-term cardiovascular safety and potential benefits of Tesamorelin, it is crucial to assess the continuation of treatment for patients who do not demonstrate a clear response, as evaluated by the reduction of visceral fat indicated by waist circumference or CT scan results.
Additionally, Tesamorelin is not suitable for weight management (having a weight-neutral effect), and there is no evidence that it enhances adherence to antiretroviral therapies in individuals with HIV.
General Dosing Guidelines:The suggested dose for Tesamorelin is 2 mg administered subcutaneously once daily.
The preferred injection site is the abdomen, and it is important to rotate injection locations to different parts of the abdomen. Avoid injecting into areas with scar tissue, bruises, or the navel.
Reconstitution Instructions:Tesamorelin must be reconstituted using the diluent provided.
To reconstitute, mix a 2 mg vial of Tesamorelin with 2.1 mL of the diluent by gently rolling the vial in your hands for 30 seconds, avoiding vigorous shaking.
Detailed reconstitution instructions can be found in the INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE leaflet included with the Tesamorelin and diluent packaging.
Administer Tesamorelin right after reconstitution, and dispose of any unused solution. If not used immediately, the reconstituted solution should be discarded and should not be frozen or refrigerated.
Administration:Before administration, always visually inspect the reconstituted Tesamorelin solution for any particulate matter or discoloration, if possible. Tesamorelin should only be injected if the solution is clear, colorless, and free from particles.
It should be injected subcutaneously into the abdominal skin, with site rotation to different areas of the abdomen. Avoid injecting into scar tissue, bruises, or the navel.
