Betaserc is a medication that contains betahistine as its active ingredient. It is part of a category of drugs used to treat vertigo, a condition characterized by a sensation of dizziness and imbalance, or the feeling that surrounding objects are moving when they are stationary. Betaserc works by enhancing blood flow to the brain, particularly in the inner ear, which plays a critical role in maintaining balance, thereby alleviating dizziness.
This medication is also utilized to treat tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and Meniere's disease (a disorder affecting the inner ear). While Betaserc can decrease the frequency and intensity of vertigo episodes, it cannot completely eliminate them.
PrecautionsBetaserc should not be used in the following circumstances:
Caution is advised when administering this medication to patients with asthma or those suffering from peptic ulcers (gastric or duodenal).
Use During Pregnancy and BreastfeedingBetaserc may only be prescribed during pregnancy if the potential benefits to the mother outweigh the risks to the child, as there is insufficient data on its safety during pregnancy.
It is unclear if this medication is excreted in breast milk; thus, it is advisable to refrain from breastfeeding while taking Betaserc.
How to UseAvailable dosage forms include:
